Global Matrix IV
Global Matrix IV
An International Printmaking Exhibition
I visited Global Matrix IV, An International Printmaking Exhibition. It was great to meet all around world artists, especially printmaking artists' work. Furthermore here at Purdue, it is rare opportunity to appreciate world artists' work. This exhibition showed many different styles of printmaking and very interesting, the reason is that each work is produced from very conservative methods to cutting-edge- styles.
This is one of the works that I wanted to learn about the method- mezzotint. The work is "Pepetuum Mobile LXXXIII" by Tomasz Winiarski, Poland.
It is created by mezzotint and drypoint. Eye catching, and interesting composition. Moreover, the deep black which would not be achieved if it was not for this method. Through the profound black and subtle lines, the artist's succeeded to express the feeling of mysterious mechanic objects.
Sumi, M Perera (United Kingdom) created "Climbing Over the glass Ceiling III". This one also the one color black etching print.
I really adored these two works, because they are printed only one black color, and printed with traditional way, yet they look perfect. In these days, I am working on etching. These works are experimental, and the field of etching is new area to me. I kept thinking that I have to learn several new methods. Through this exhibition, I realized the basic rule for printmaking. The beautiful work is not always connected with new skills. Of course, depends on artists' purpose, new skills and medium are important. However, the problem of my work is composition. That is basic in two-dimensional art. In this exhibition, I was glad to appreciate wonderful works and find my solution.
